Traditional production facilities for metal packaging are typically not very flexible. Normally, focus is on producing many units quickly in a more or less fixed setup. Any change to the product results in the change and replacement of a great number of tools and other elements. This is an expensive, slow and inflexible process for both G&M and our customers.
In order to increase our flexibility towards customer demands Glud & Marstrand have developed a Flex-line. The Flex-line is built as a system containing programmed movements instead of fixed tools. This enables us to switch from one shape to another, e.g. from octagonal to square tins, faster than otherwise. At the same time it is possible to produce units that could not previously be made, for example cans with organic shapes. The new possibilities in the Flex-line also make it cost efficient to develop and produce small quantities.
G&M’s Flex-line has amongst others the following advantages:
- Flexibility – changes in production can be made quickly, possible to produce small quantities
- Shorter distance from idea to product – new products can be produced faster and cheaper
- Design options – greater freedom to shape the can
- Better profitability – new cans in small quantities can be produced
- Customers can buy all their metal packaging from the same supplier
